Wear Patchwork Without Lookling Like Grandma

23 Thursday Jun 2016

Tags

2016, fashion, fashion blog, fashion blogger, patchwork, summer, trends

So, maybe you have heard, but patchwork is a trend for this summer.  Personally, I love it.  It’s a huge contrast, especially compared to my other favorite trend, sequins!  How can you wear. Patchwork without looking a little too much like your grandma?

  • Go with bright colors.  Shy away from primary colors-blue, red, yellow, especially when framed in black.
  • Choose a color palate.  If you like pink, go with, and colors with the same vibrancy that compliment.
  • Look for tiny patters within the patchwork. Florals and paisley.  From a distance it blends in, but up close it adds contrast.
  • Look for a modern shape to the clothing.   Fitted, off the shoulder–something grandma defiantly wouldn’t be wearing!
  • Most importantly…wear something you love.  Nothing will make you look like grandma more than you wearing something that makes you feel like grandma! You can pull off anything that you feel amazing in!

DIY: Pom Pom Sandals

Okay, so maybe I am the only one with an eccentric enough sense of style to love the pom pom sandals that have been cropping up.  The are happy, fun, and look so fresh for the season.  The problem?  No way am I going to spend $100+ on them.  My solution?  A DIY project of course!

What you need

pompomsandals2

Lace up Sandals (I got mine on Amazon for less than $15)
Hot Glue Gun (with glue)
Pom PomsOptional: Pom pom ribbon and scissors

**Warning** I know this may come as a shock to some, but hot glue is…hot!  Take care not to burn yourself, which like likely eventually happen anyway.  I like hi-temp because it gives me longer to work, but if you have sensitive skin, get yourself a low temp clue gun.

1) put on your sandals to get a rough idea of where you want pom poms and what you want them to look like.

2) Start glueing!  Remember to be careful with the hot glue, and hold the pom poms in place for a couple of seconds before releasing.

3) let your sandals cool, and start wearing!  Remember hot glue isn’t a permanent thing, so keep your extra pom poms around in case you wear them enough to need a repair!

Love these sandals!

Are Leggings Pants?

19 Thursday May 2016

Tags

fashion, fashion blog, fashion blogger, how to, leggins, pants, style, trends

Okay, so this topic has circled around the fashion for a long time.  As leggings became a staple in ever girls wardrobe for their ease and comfort, they started creeping up in more places, and no longer just as a layering piece. It seems lately it has re-emerged, stronger than ever, in the fashion world!

So what is StylishTwo’s take on wearing leggings as pants?

Yes, but only with a little sense, and a lot of confidence.  That said, they are a fashion statement that is easily horribly wrong, and care should always be taken when rocking a pair of this skin tight cotton as your only bottom coverage.  They easily make you look lazy, and far from stylish.  So what should you do to actually pull off leggings when you just can’t bring yourself to slide into denim?

  1. Start with the right legging.
This is not the place to save a few bucks. Always go for a quality legging.  The less expensive leggings end up becoming very sheer, and when wearing something this tight, you don’t need to add to the transparency.
  2. Black is always great, but step out of your comfort zone.
Don’t think black is your only option.  Leggings come in a lot of different colors, patterns and fabrics.  Sometimes making a clear statement with your legging makes it seem a little more intentional.
  3. Make it an Outfit
For the love of Jimmy Choo, unless you are actually heading to the gym, don’t dress like you might be.  Make your leggings part of a fashion statement.  Pair it with a top and shoes that do not fall into the athlesiure category. It will leave you looking more put together, and the outfit more intentional.
  4. Length and Volume to contrast.
Part of being stylish is knowing what to show, and what to cover.  Leggings should be balanced with a looser fitting top that is long enough to at least cover most, if not all of your back side.  Mix it up with an unexpected top, or even wearing a dress.
  5. Layers are your friend.
Layers add volume and dimension to an outfit that can easily look underwhelming.  Don’t be afraid ti mix up your outfit by layering unexpected pieces.

Are Wardrobe Rentals the Next Big Thing?

05 Thursday May 2016

Tags

clothing, clothing renals, fashion, fashion blog, fashion blogger, inspiration, le tote, rent the runway, rental, rtr, style, the ms collection, trends, wardrobe

Anyone who loves and follows fashion, knows its a constant struggle for those on a limited budget.  Trends are constantly changing, especially in the age of the internet, where new micro-trends crop up every few days.  Its hard enough for a girl to stay on top of, forget actually affording to try everything we wish to try in the world of fashion.

In steps the rentals.  Renting, well, pretty much anything, is not a new concept in our society.  We rent apartments, cars, even appliances.  Bag Borrow or Steal came into the market a number of years ago and is still going strong.  Why not up the game and rent a wardrobe?

The idea of renting, is that you are allowed to develop a strong wardrobe of basic pieces, and then rent the quirky trends, or that special occasion dress, for only a fraction of the buying price.  After you wear it, you simply return it.  It doesn’t tale up space in your closet, and you don’t have to make a trip to the dry cleaners.

So what are your options?

Le Tote$59/month. Free Shipping.  5 items at at time.  Unlimited rotations per month.

Rent the Runway Unlimited
$139/month.  Free Shipping. 3 items at a time.  Unlimited rotations per month. Higher end options.

The Ms. Collection
$49-$13/Month.  Free Shipping.  3-6 items at a time.  Unlimited rotations per month.  Options for play, business or combo rentals.

While I have not tried and of these yet, lets me honest…its in my very near future!

For a fresh look this spring, keep the classic white shirt in your closet and wear a reworked shirt.  Try Feminine ruffles for a new trendy twist.

Counteract the femininity of the shirt with a wide denim leg trouser, that makes this look modern and fresh.
