If you ask me gingham and suede go together like peanut butter and jelly. Both can go casual, or dressed up, so the combo leaves you ready to conquer!
The dreary spring weather in Maine means that I have days when I can’t quite talk myself into fabulous bring spring colors, and this combo fits the bill perfectly for my super busy schedule.
Don’t be shy about pairing black accessories with the suede, think if it as a neutral, instead of a brown. I wore a great back woven belt, and a super comfortable pair of black slide sandals. They let the focus be all on this great J Crew top, and luxe texture of the suede skirt while giving my feet a break from constant stilettos while I focused on getting this done!
Until next time! XO – S

Clearly, I enjoy a cropped sweater, since this is the third time I have posted one in the last couple of months. Why? Because you really can wear them in many ways that are flattering for all body types, even if you are shy about actually showing anything close to your stomach.
Last week, I did a bonus outfit of a cropped sweater of a button down shirt I wore to a meeting. This week, it was my shopping outfit. Functional, stylish, and wearing a number of trends from this spring!
While I think your reusable shopping bags are also a total must, really I decided I wanted to wear my overalls. The weather is still chilly in Maine (notice the shorts), so the cropped sweater was the perfect combo to keep me warm, while still showing just a touch of skin. I love this purple stripped one too, but combining it with overalls helped me to feel less self conscious, while still playing with fashion trends. I paired it with a white cross body bag for function, and an awesome pair of chunky ankle boots, which give me height without the problems of trying to shop in a more narrow heel.
Also, since this early morning shopping trip did not involve me washing my hair beforehand, I did a great upside down french braid as a way to contain my second day hair!
Happy Monday!

Anything work related, other than actually going into the OR, in my life involves very professional attire. It is easy to get into a very plain-Jane rut of attire when you are limited, and always trying to represent yourself well. I recently attended an anesthesia conference, where I was clearly representing myself to colleagues, future employers, and my profession to the outside world. I try to look polished without loosing my own sense of trendy style.
For this particular conference, I chose to rock the black and white trend that has been very popular this spring.
My base was a pair of tuxedo pants that I bought recently. They have an almost shiny finish, with the matte stripe down the side and a clean fit.
I added a chiffon black and white shirt, which softens the fit of the tuxedo pants. Its a loose fit, that drapes well.
A pair of black patten leather pumps blend into the leg of the tuxedo pants, making my legs look even longer.at mil ring in colors that complimented my outfit, and some diamond jewelry that didn’t over power the effect of my clothes, which I wanted to speak for themselves!

After shoes, bags are probably my next biggest culprit for trends I just can’t help but give into. I love having a stylish stack of bags to choose from. After all, the perfect bag can really make an outfit, and a change of season always means some great new bags! So what are my favorite bags for this spring?
Bucket Bags
Perhaps what I am most excited about this year, and the bag I have already bought to be my spring go to! Bucket bags have a great effortless, casual feel to them do to their relaxed structure. This season so, there are no limits. They are coming in great colors, textures, and even prints. Any bucket bag that speaks to your personal style will put you ahead this spring!
Circles
Circles were a very popular shape this year on the runways, and why not? They break the traditional square or rectangular shape which can seem so…stiff! Don’t get my wrong, rectangles are still a trend (especially upright ones), but why not step outside your comfort zone and try a great circle clutch.
Floral
Nothing says spring quite like a floral print, and my very feminine side loves it. This year, floral patterns came in all colors and styles. From the subtle Mulberry bag, which hinted on the trend for neural colors, to bolder prints like Valentino and Fendi. Go big, and find a great floral and let a little bit of your girlie side come out.
Fringe
Fringe has been here for a while, and it doesn’t look like it is going anywhere! Suede is a huge trend for spring, and a safe bet this spring, but also feel free to reach out to other fringe shapes and styles. This Armani bag is particularly drool worthy.
Handles
Don’t worry, cross body bags and shoulder bags haven’t left us, but top handle bags are certainly making their presence be know this spring. Even clutches with great side handles seemed to appear everywhere! Not quite ready to make the switch (or give up a free hand), try a bag with handles and a strap like Alexander Wang. It will give you the style, without loosing the convenience.
Two Bags
Big bags, and little bags both made some very bold statements this season. Can’t quite decide? Go with both! I love the convenience of a large tote, where I can put everything from my kindle to a first aid kit, but the tiny bags are just so adorable, and sometimes just so much easier…this season, quiet a few designers encouraged us not to choose, and just carry both!
Enjoy a fresh spring bag, and warmer days to come! xoxo – S

After the winter we have had, its hard to imagine that spring really is right around the corner! After spending more than a week in the Dominican Republic on vacation with my beloved Em, returning to the Northeast seems cold, and still covered with snow. That said, I can still feel the temperatures rising, and the little hints of spring that are in the air. It really is fast approaching, and I couldn’t be more excited!
I took today off from my normal Anesthesia job to get a few things done before I fully settled back into reality, and I decided to incorporate little elements of the pending warmer weather into my wardrobe, mainly using color.
The coral color of this tank with the loose weave of the cardigan are perfect spring time colors and look great together. A skinny black belt helped take down some of the bulk of the cardigan, giving it a more feminine shape.
Seeing as I am rarely safe with my fashion choices, and was not quite ready to give up my shorts from last week, I work a dark denim pair, over flowered leggings. The pattern and colors is very spring, but my legs were still kept from being bare in the still chilly temperatures. Finally, I finished it off with a pare of nude stacked heels. This outfit says a lot, a nude is the perfect color to let the clothes take all the attention.
Dress for spring everyone! xo- S

This is the outfit I wore to my Maine Home and Design Fashion Shoot! Although their photos will be so much better then mine, here is a little peak for what I think, as an Architect is hot for spring!
White is IN!
Bold blue colors with A-symetrical Hem Lines
A classy pair of pointy shoes – oh and YELLOW – I’m not wearing it, but it’s my fashionable office accessory!
Again – JEWEL TONES _ I chose blue because it’s a good color for me, but think bright for spring!
I love the the architectural nature of this hem – paired with white pants so it really pops!
And who can forget a great pair of heels! That makes any outfit classy! Keep them closed toe for work – so get funky with the point, the heel, or the fabric!
Keeping it classy – Until next week – xoxo – Em

So here are my top 5 favorite spring fashion trends for 2015
The shirtdress can be casual or dressed up, but I think it brings a sexy side to a classic button down. As seen above, a cute belt can take that shirt dress from a sloppy sack to a fit and stylish outfit. I also love that the shirt dress above has slits that are not too risqué but make this tea length style easy to move in! And I just love a good strip pattern! Never be afraid to get something tailored either. If you’re like me, the top of the shirt dress hangs limp and way too big in order to get one that fits over my much wider hips! So invest that extra couple of dollar into a tailor and be in fashion this season!
2. Bright Yellow
I love YELLOW! I’ve been wearing yellow for years, but it’s not a good color for everyone. Don’t let that steer you away from yellow this season. Simply pair a yellow pant or skirt with a white top and enjoy the fun yellow fashion trend. You can also try adding a scarf to your yellow top to break the yellow between your face and shirt!
3. Culottes
Although plenty of things are “in” this year, it looks like short is back! Short flowy culottes from the past are in. Showing off sexy ankles with strapy sandals or a great pair of heels, these floaty short pants are going to be HOT this season!
I look out my window and all I can see is white, but somehow this head to toe white look makes me SUPER excited for spring. It’s classy, it’s refreshing, and it’s easy! White and Yellow are in, crisp and classy for spring!
5. Army Green
Who’s to say that army green isn’t amazing. Green being one of my favorite colors, I love what Ralph Lauren did with this classic style and army green neutral!
It will be interesting to see what the population picks up on from spring fashion 2015. Although these were some of my favorites, I don’t always win in the general public fashion game!
Until next week, xoxo ~ Em
