2015 October Red Cape-0063

If you have been following fashion trends at all in 2015 you know that shapeless, roomy, and baggie are in. And one of those trends that we love is the cape! So here is S in a startling red cape, something that picks up the fall colors, can transcend into December and make the leap through January and February. We love the idea of the cape!

What do you think of the cape trends?

Work Appropriate Footwear

Em is an Architect, which means that professional footwear is a must.  When going to meet a client, it’s critical to dress the part.  However, there is no reason to be boring and straight laced.  Here are a few favorite choices to throw into your wardrobe to jazz up that power suit or just look professional.

Although, on occasion, I will throw in a peep toe shoe – the rule of thumb is closed toe in the business world.

The rounded front chunky heel! Chunky heels are back ladies! Although a great stiletto will never go out of style, we can plan to be more stable on those sky high heels this fall!IMG_1217

Sparkly flats! Sometimes you have to visit a client and your concerned about your heel. Throw on a great pair of sparkly, pointed toe flats.  Honestly, flat doesn’t have to be boring!blog outfit 1 shoes

Multi tones! We’ve been seeing a lot of multi-tone shoes. Something with a neutral and a pop of color! I just had to stop myself from buying an incredible pair of white pumps with red trim details! They even matched the red pants I was wearing. Alas, I was good – holding out for the next fabulous pair of shoes I can’t resist!

Navy! If you’ve been following our blog you have heard me harp about Navy. Navy is the new power color. People are more likely to buy from you wearing navy over black or brown! So go out and get a pair of navy shoes already!Emily4

Nude, Chunky, And Fabulous! Like I mentioned above, chunky is in this year.  But let’s talk about another trend – nude! All over neutral is in and having a great pair of nude heels will never steer you wrong.

The Staple! Every woman simply must own a great pair of patent leather black pumps! End. Of. Story.DSC_1389

Whimsey! As seen in our previous blog post (a must read!) “how to make your high heels more comfortable” This pair of whimsical floral heels adds a touch of feminine to the powerful world of business women. Let’s not just march on in our heels, let’s remind them we are women!StylishTwo - Comfortable Heels

And Bold Patterns! Find a bold pattern you love and go for it. Wear it with a neutral and let the shoes bet the statement. Animal prints, done in this way, make a classy outfit just a little bit fun! Everything has it’s place, and zebra print shoes should always be in the mix! StylishTwoPostADayInMay-2182

Thanks for checking in again this week! As you can see, S & Em are shoe obsessed!

And so we leave you with this quote below! xoxo ~ Em

“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.”

The thing about summer, is that sometimes mother nature decides to give you a cool cloudy day–especially when you live in the north east.  So what is a well dressed professional woman suppose to do to give her outfit the edgier vibe of summer, while still keeping comfortable when the weather throws you a curve ball?

As you may have picked up – Em has decided to take off golf!

So here is a quick and easy golf ensemble that Em put together for her firs lesson:

1. Loose fitting pants that move across your body while you are golfing, but not get tangled in your movements. Em loves her new Puma golf pants

OOTD Golfing-06-3OOTD Golfing-06-7

2. a loose fitting breezy top.  It can get quite hot out on the course, so wear something lightweight that is loose enough to move while you are golfing, but tight enough that you won’t get tangled. And lesson learned, if you wear long sleeve, make sure they end above your wrists.

OOTD Golfing-06-4OOTD Golfing-06-8

Since Em is just learning to golf, she doesn’t have golfing shoes.  To add a pop of color to this outfit, it’s paired with a great low profile sneaker.

Em likes to wear bold colors when jewelry isn’t really an option, paired with a gray neutral this outfit has style without being over the top.

OOTD: Outfit of the Day – The Power Suit

As many of you know, I’m an Architect. So I love a great power suit! I’m kicking it back casual here, but you get the idea!

I read an article once that said people were more likely to buy from you if you were wearing navy blue over black or brown.  So my power suit is naturally – Navy Blue

StylishTwoPostADayInMay-1996

Go long on your pants and wear heels! Always wear closed toe shoes for business. And dress up your power suit with a funky blouse. I love orange, so I wear this top with the grommets quite frequently! I love the light weight shirt under the suit, because it can get hot. Thank goodness we aren’t men that need to button up their shirts and wear ties.

Blue Shoes-1962

But even if you aren’t a professional woman, mens wear is hot right now! So go out and grab that power suit or two piece funky mens wear fashion! You’ll look stunning and put together! People will want to know you! It’s all about confidence, so wear it with swagger!

Cheers! xoxo Em

OOTD: Fashion Trends Overalls and Cropped Sweater

Clearly, I enjoy a cropped sweater, since this is the third time I have posted one in the last couple of months.  Why?  Because you really can wear them in many ways that are flattering for all body types, even if you are shy about actually showing anything close to your stomach.

Last week,  I did a bonus outfit of a cropped sweater of a button down shirt I wore to a meeting.  This week, it was my shopping outfit.  Functional, stylish, and wearing a number of trends from this spring!

Spring 2015 Fashion Trend: How to Wear Overalls @StylishTwo.comWhile I think your reusable shopping bags are also a total must, really I decided I wanted to wear my overalls.  The weather is still chilly in Maine (notice the shorts), so the cropped sweater was the perfect combo to keep me warm, while still showing just a touch of skin.  I love this purple stripped one too, but combining it with overalls helped me to feel less self conscious, while still playing with fashion trends.  I paired it with a white cross body bag for function, and an awesome pair of chunky ankle boots, which give me height without the problems of trying to shop in a more narrow heel.

Also, since this early morning shopping trip did not involve me washing my hair beforehand, I did a great upside down french braid as a way to contain my second day hair!

Happy Monday!

Happy CRNA Week!

Happy CRNA Week!

I am very happily in the last few months of my CRNA program, and this week is the annual celebration of my future career! I share this because most people have no idea what I do, or any of the requirements of my job.  Chances are if you have had anesthesia, it was given by a CRNA!  I encourage everyone to learn more about these highly educated, specialized, professionals by using the link above.

So, why am I bringing this up now? The world of anesthesia is one of the most unfashionable jobs ever.  I wear the same uni-gender monochromatic green garments as every other OR staff member.  I have to wear a scrub cap, covers on my shoes, most of the time a mask and eye protection as well.  Many hospitals don’t allow jewelry or even painted nails.  Very liIMG_1070miting right?

Every morning I change in the locker room, and notice the number of people who come in wearing sweat pants, yoga pants, hoodies, and other equally unfashionable attire.  I have to ask myself, why?  Yes, I arrive early…in fact, I am often one of the first people into the hospital.  I am only in my street clothes for a much shorter time than I wear my OR scrubs, and sometimes I am too mentally and physically exhausted to think about a great outfit.  At the end of the day though, I am an eccentric, well educated professional, and that is how I want to present myself, always. Belore work some examples of outfits I have worn to work over the last couple of weeks!

So next time you are getting dressed, dress for who you are, and who to be in life, not for the fact you maybe have a less than stylish job!

What to do when your husband is the same height as you, but you want to still look fabulous when you go out together? Get a sparkly pair of shoes! All things shiny are in right now, so this pointy toed flat dressed up this outfit perfectly!Blog Outfit 1

But it’s January, and you need to be warm, so pairing a gold and silver glittery scarf as a wrap over a simple single colored dress and sparkly shoes glam up this outfit for a night out at the awards banquet.

What can you do to save time and still be fashionable?

I am an Architect, and I own my own business. So this post goes out to all you professional women, busy moms, and women who just don’t like to shop! A few months ago, my sister, a beautiful stay at home mom, introduced me to a company called Stitch Fix! As a business owner and professed work-o-holic, I find I don’t have time to go shopping. I also find, that living in Maine, can make shopping just a hair more challenging then some other areas of the country. So when my sister, who finds that having two minutes to yourself to shop just never happens, tried Stitch Fix and loved it, I just had to jump on board.  I read the positive and negative reviews, and decided to sign up.  First, you get to fill out a style profile.  They show you a series of images and outfits to rank how much you like them. Then you choose your size, fit categories, and the amount you want to spend on certain types of items. For me, I love big, wild statement jewelry, so I only want to spend a little bit, and get a lot of fun, flashy pieces.  However, on a blouse that I’m going to wear frequently for work, I’m willing to spend a little more for quality that’s going to last. My latest “fix” included the scarf below. I love scarves!

IMG_3934

You pay a $20 style fee to set up your first “fix”. If you like anything from your “fix” and decide to keep it, the $20 goes towards that. I think that’s only fair. And if you decide not to keep anything, you’re only out $20. You can set the frequency of the fix to once, monthly, bi-monthly or seasonal. So then I just had to wait, in all my excitement, to get my first fix!  They send you 5 items with a lovely little style guide on how to wear your items, and a price list. There is even a personalized note from your stylist in the top right corner. This week I got my 5th “fix.” For the first two fixes I had different stylists, but I’ve had the same stylist for the last 3 “fixes.” These have been all of my favorites! She has truly nailed my style!

IMG_3947

Now I get to try on these “new fashions” in the comfort of my own home, without having to go anywhere.  They take my style into consideration, but they send me pieces I would not find on my own, or maybe would never have thought to try on.  Some brands like 41 Hawthorn and Just Black even have exclusive lines only for Stitch Fix!

IMG_3334

The Pros and Cons:

Cost: Yes, you might be able to find something from your fix online for a lesser cost. However, I want you to keep in mind you didn’t have to go out and find it, or mail it to yourself, and you may never have found it on your own.  So keep in mind, that although you are “paying for the clothes” you are really paying for someone to do the leg work for you. My time is valuable, I think it’s worth the extra cost.

Feasibility: If you keep all 5 items you get a whole box discount! Well I’ve gotten 5 fixes and I have yet to keep all 5 items.  One box had 5 amazing things, but the cost of each item was high and I couldn’t fit it into my budget that time around. This last box I got, I loved everything, but one item had a fit problem and unfortunately there is no discount on keeping 4 items.

Ease: I mentioned above how easy it is get get your fix, now i’d like to end with how easy it is to keep and return your items.  The online system allows you to check through the five items you got.  You select if you are going to keep it and then you evaluate whether or not the cost, fit, style, and like were too much, just right, or too little. Seriously, does anyone ever check that box! Then you can leave a note for your stylist. I asked my stylist to resend me an item in another fix. Luckily for me, they still had it, and she shipped it out to me again. You can also comment on shape, fit, color, style and link your profile to Pinterest where your stylist can see any of the stylish things you have saved there! Once you’ve decided what you are keeping and what you are sending back, you click check out, you get your $20 style fee credited to whatever you kept, you throw the items you are returning in the self paid envelop that they give you, and you put it in the mailbox to go back within 3 days of receiving your “fix”. Easy as can be!

So check it out next time you are feeling frustrated with your wardrobe, lacking time to go shopping, or just want someone else to suggest some fashions to you! So stay tuned, my outfit post for next week is from my latest Stitch Fix!

Cheers and Happy 2015 ~ Em
