The end of summer is rapidly closing in on us.  Personally, I wish a hedgehod could pop its head up, see its shadow and give us six more weeks of long sunshine days.  That said, I can already feel a change in the air as evening rolls in, and the days are notably shorter.

What else comes shorter, as summer stretches on?  My energy level.  I always over exert and over commit during the summer months, and by now, trying to gain enthusiasm for continued fashion in the midst of the regular summer activities can be a challenge.

Noticed my absence for all social media lately? It's because Tristan, my rockstar horse, and I rode roughly 150 miles across the northeast! #nofilter #horsesofinstagram #lovemyhorse #natualbeauty

Here are some tips to help keep you in the style came, even if really all you want to do is spend a few lazy days lounging on the beach!

Ditch the Flip Flops
Okay, so, at baseline I’m not really a flip flop fan anyway…why?  Because they look too casual, beachy, and they can make that horrid noise when you walk.  They are awesome of the beach, but if we are talking about daily life, step it p a notch.  Go for a leather slide or lace up sandal, which are huge trends this year, to make your outfit look just a little more dressed up.

Put on a Dress
Yep.  You heard me.  Its probably the easiest thing to actually pic out for an outfit.  You only have one thing to choose and coordinate with.  Its cool in the warm weather, and if you opt for something other than flip flops, everyone will ask you why you are so dressed up.

Mix Media
Want to wear that super comfy logo t-shirt?  Make it more of a statement by combining it with something unexpected, like a lace mini-skirt.  It will make the whole outfit seem intention, while giving you are more intentional look than the usual jeans you would wear it with.

Accessories
Ah…the key to everything.  Even cutoff shorts and a tank take on a whole new look with a statement necklace, a pair of block heels and a bold matte lip.  If nothing else, add a extra elements to your look to pull it all together.

I hope these help to bring a little style into your every day!

Summer is my favorite season.  The long days, the warm sunshine, beach days, BBQ’s, strappy sandals, and summer dresses.  I love my summer dresses.  As anyone who regularly reads this blog can tell, I actually don’t wear pants often. Anytime I can wear a skirt or a dress, I probably will.  That doesn’t mean that I don’t occasionally like to have my legs covered.  In the hot summer days, the usual casual style of jeans can feel just a bit to restricting, so why not try out palazzo pants, which are a fun trend of the moment!

These loose, wide leg pants let your legs still get a breeze, and come in great colors and styles!palazzo2

Often times you can find them in a high waist version, which pairs great with a crop top, and makes your legs look like they go on forever!palazzo3

Pair with a comfortable block heel, so the pants almost touch the ground for the illusion of maximum leg length, while still giving you comfort and freedom to do whatever activity you can think of!

When the relationship that lasted a good part of my 20’s finally ended and I entered the world of dating again. This is stressful enough for any young woman, but for a fashion oriented woman there is a new level of concern: What to wear?! If you follow fashion blogs, you have probably heard for the Man Repeller. What is it? Basically a woman who is so trendy and eccentric with her fashion sense that her outfits have been to know actually repel men. I fall into this category a good portion of the time, and found myself disparately seeking guidance when it came to my first jump back into the dating world.

  • Avoid anything too trendy.
Yes, wear fashionable and flattering pieces, but most men do not get trends. They tend to appreciate more classic pieces, and feminine silhouettes. Limit any trend following to one piece only.

How to Wear a White Dress

Limit anything bold and trendy–like statement shoes or a statement necklace.

  • Patterns can be confusing.
Especially if you mix them. Stick with solid colors, or subtle patterns that they the focus be on you and not your clothing.  If you do wear a pattern, try to wear a more solid top, so it isn’t distracting during drinks over cocktails.

Patterns can be confusing. Don’t mix them, and try to keep them on the subtle side, and opt for a solid top.

  • Love your curves.
Wear something that accentuates your curves, and the most flattering part of your body—especially your hips. A more fitting top with an aline skirt for example. Its classic, and flattering for all body types.

A fitted top and a full skirt accentuates curves in a good way and is flattering on most body types.

  • Wear shoes that have proven themselves.
Heels are always a fantastic choice. They make your legs look like they could go on forever, and give your backside and extra lift—but, date night is not the time to break in a new pair of wear anything over the top. Wear a pair of heels that you know you can handle being in, no matter how long the date lasts.  Avoid anything too high or too heavy of heels.  They easily alter our gait, which is half the appear of women in heels.

Wear heels you know you can enjoy the evening! No one likes when a girl complains about her feet hurting for half the night

  • Match your man’s style
You should match your date—to an extent. If he is wearing jeans, consider wearing jeans or something casual at least. If he is going to be coming from the office wearing his suit, wear a dress. Dress like you belong together, not like you are from separate worlds.

Pair a gingham shirt with boyfriend jeans and your favorite heels for an easy put together look!

  • Keep your hair and makeup feminine and non-distracting
Keep your makeup subtle. Style your eye makeup to make them appear bigger, and defiantly do a little contouring.  Stick to a tinted lip balm for a soft lip and a hint of color. Wearing your hair down is almost always the most flattering.

  • Be Yourself.
At the end of the day—be true to yourself and your own style. If you never wear dresses, don’t wear a dress. If you don’t like wearing jeans, don’t wear them. I am always over dressed, and in heels—my first date with my current beau I wore jeans, stilettos and a metallic top because it was being true to myself while compromising with her more casual nature.

What to Wear to a Summer Wedding

04 Thursday Jun 2015

After a long cold winter, little is better than summer days and warm sunshine.  One thing that always seems to crop up in the summer, is the summer wedding.  So why not have a little inspiration for what to wear to that stake of weddings you have invites to pinned to your fridge.

Some basic tips

  •  Know your bride and groom.  Everyone has different styles and tastes.  Dress in something you know they would love, and fits the theme of their wedding.
  •  If the bride is wearing white, don’t wear white.  I know, but I had to say it. The day is about the bride
  • Watch your skirt length.  Knee length is idea, or longer if that is your preference.

For the Casual Wedding

We all have that friend who wants to get married outside in cowboy boots.  They fun and easy going, and their wedding is bout to be a blast.  Wear a cotton floral dress.  Its comfortable and will let you move on the dance floor and have a great time.  Yellow is a huge color this summer, and perfect for a wedding like this.

Step it up a Notch…

For a slightly dressier outdoor wedding, floral is still a great option.  Go for a bold print in a more structured cut to step things up a notch.  This dress is my personal favorite, because it works for almost any wedding occasion!

The Formal Wedding

Go for a cocktail dress in a summer color like this great shade of green, especially if the wedding is in the daytime.

The Maxi DressWhat to wear to a summer wedding

We all love maxi dresses.  They are the ideal summer go to look.  Who wouldn’t to carry that over to a wedding! The way to make a maxi dress work is to wear one with a little more formal look, like this shirt dress style in an electric color.

Wearing Black

The little black dress is the perfect chic stylish look for a cocktail wedding. Wearing black to a wedding can be tricky, after all you want to look happy for the occasion, not like you are going to a funeral. The trick is to be a little more fun with you attire.  Don’t skimp on the dress.  Go for lace or satin, or an equally appealing fabric, and wear with fun accessories.

Go Bold

Feel like pushing the fashion limits, and turning a few heads?  Try a jumpsuit!  They are easily dressed up, but super comfortable if dresses aren’t your thing.

Hopefully this makes choosing your outfit when you are a wedding guest this summer a little easier.  Check back next week for a post on how to accessorize these looks!
