How to Follow Fashion Week When You Can’t be There

Yesterday was the first day of New York Fashion Week. I am back home in Maine, living my life, doing my “real job.”

I would love to attend fashion shoes, I nearly drool over the idea.  Like most of us who are not in the industry, we as StylishTwo do not have the luxury to be invited to the shows, and we also have very successful careers that sometimes limit our traveling.  So how can we stay current with whats happening at the runway from the comfort of our own living rooms?  Here are a few ideas to help!

  1. You can actually watch live stream, and even replays of the shows.  Yes. You heard correctly. Check out NewYorkFashionWeekLive.com!
  2. Social Media.  Lets admit it.  We all have Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat.  Start following influencial people (designers, your favorite models and bloggers), to a constant stream of their live action shots.  Want some suggestions on who to follow?  Check out this list by Glamour, or this one by Elle.
  3. There’s an App for That.  The seemingly never ending collection of apps on our phone seem to do everything for us.  Arrange our schedule, wake us up in the morning, provide and exercise routine, and help scope out fashion week.  Check out this list by SheKnows to see what awesome app’s are out there to help you navigate the runways and the street style!

If you have been following fashion trends at all in 2015 you know that shapeless, roomy, and baggie are in. And one of those trends that we love is the cape! So here is S in a startling red cape, something that picks up the fall colors, can transcend into December and make the leap through January and February. We love the idea of the cape!

The long sleeve maxi dress is a trend that’s popular this fall.  But S can’t just wear a long sleeve dress, it has to be memorable! Here she is pictured in a crisp white maxi dress with purple paint splatters.

I thought she looked ethereal, so this photo shoot was a little a la lady of the lake.

One of my favorite things about fall is the colors, patterns, and textures of the season.  So we often find that it comes out in our fashion.  Here, you can see S wearing a great fall print filled with orange, reds, and browns.

We chose a slightly western flair pattern to go along with this seasons trends, and then amped up the style with a great pair of bold yellow pumps.

Also popular this year was the sack dress. Don’t worry if you’re a little too curvy to wear the standard sack dress like Em.  Just throw on a belt to add some definition to your waist.

We love a little extra detail, so we chose this dress with 3/4 sleeves, an open back and a top that resembles a bow tie. Sometimes the simplest elements add the most!

OOTD – How to Wear Denim on Denim

Happy Monday! So you’ve probably noticed that denim on denim is popular this season.  With temperatures dropping to the 30’s at night and the high only getting into the 50’s this week, we have officially welcomed fall.  The leaves are changing, the sweaters are coming out, and fair season has begun.  So here’s an idea of how to wear jean on jean, especially if you need an outfit idea to wear to the fair!

And we always love a great shoe, preferably with a heel. So we added a pair of sling back mules to this outfit to give a little height and comfort while out and about. Chunky shoes and mules are in, so pull out those closed toe shoes, fall is upon us!

And, you’ll notice, the ever present bandana is back in this post as well. It’s something to add a little color, its a popular trend that absolutely everyone can wear. So get a little crazy, find a bandana in a color you love, and jazz up your outfit with a little pop of color!

Who doesn’t love the look of a jumpsuit of romper! Let’s take it into fall fashion with a stylish bandana and a great pair of heels.

And lets not forget the bandana.  Just a little something to give this outfit a color kick. You can throw it in your pocket, tie it around your arm or waist, or wear it around your neck like a statement necklace.  Just a little something to give your wardrobe a kick.

OOTD – 2015 Street Style

Going out for groceries? Look your best! Here is our take on 2015 street style complete with booties, bandana, and ripped jeans.  We are easing into fall here in Maine, getting ready for some cooler temperatures to come our way. Out are the shorts and the short skirts, and in are the T’s and jeans!

S is shown wearing her bandana tied to her arm, but it’s also popular around your wrist, your hair, around your waist, or around your neck! So break out that bandana and accessorize! And because S loves a good bargain, she just bought a pair of black jeans and DIY’ed them to fit into the current trend for ripped knees!

And it’s fall, so pull out those booties! Popular again this fall are ankle booties, and well, we here at Stylish_Two can’t just go with plain booties! We love this look with the faux snakeskin pattern paired with the stripes and a solid colored black jean.

So the next time you think about just popping out for groceries or errands in your “house clothes” throw on some red lipstick (S is pictured wearing Certainly Red, by Revlon), change out your shoes for a snappy pair of booties, tie on your bandana, and show everyone that is pays to look your best!

  • This Why I Wear Bad Pants from The Man Repeller.  Fashion is an expression of who you are, and it has the ability to change the way you feel about yourself–she gets that better than anyone!
  • DIY Turtleneck Choker, by Love Maegan.  These turtleneck chokers were all over the fall fashion runways, so try her easy, and inexpensive, way to make one for yourself.  I absolutely will!
  • Dear Fashion Editors, Stop Letting Me what I Can’t Wear in my 30’s. Sometimes you just want to wear what you like. I don’t care that I’m in my 30’s.  If I want to wear a leopard print mini with my black pumps…I’m going to do it!  Dress for yourself, not for your decade!
