How Help Your Skin When Flying

28 Thursday Apr 2016

To keep with the trend of my OOTD earlier this week, I decided to share some of my advice for traveling.  This time, instead of talking ab out fashion, why not discuss skin care.

If you read my post about my favorite drugstore products, you know I have very temperamental skin.  It’s dry, acne prone, and just looking at it wrong can send it into a grumpy downward spiral that takes a month of tlc and sheet masks to coax it out of.  So keep reading to find out a few of my tips to help keep your skin happy when flying.

  • Flying is dirty and the air is painfully dry for your skin, so You have to start before you travel.  Before you leave, cleanse your skin well, apply a vitamin C serum to help brighten your skin, and then apply a thick layer of moisturizer and a good eye cream.  I always apply a sheet mask the night before as well to give my skin an extra boost of moisture and and nutrients.
  • Skip your usual foundation and apply a  BB Cream instead.  It will add even more well needed moisturizers and neutrinos to your skin.
  •  As much as I love my matte lipstick, try using a moisturizing tinted balm instead.   Even better, put a thick, moisturizing lip balm on first.  Don’t be afraid to reapply often.
  • Bring a cuticle cream with you.  A solid tin won’t take up space in those tiny bags they limit your liquids to.  Apply a thick layer on your cuticles and nails before take off, and another partway threw your flight.
  • Wipe  everything down with with a disinfecting wipe when your first sit down.  The buckle, your arm rests, anything you might touch.  It can help you from transferring who knows what bacteria from transferring to your face, and as a bonus, hopefully minimize your chance of getting sick.
  • I just can’t jump on the wear-a-mask-and-apply-your-moisturizer mid flight train, but I can agree that if you have a long flight and are prone to dry skin, a rose water facial mist can be incredibly refreshing.
  • Drink, no, put down the coffee and that mid flight cocktail.  Drink water. Lots and lots of water.  Being dehydrated will not only make you feel exhausted and more prone to getting sick, it takes your skin dull, your lips look tight and cracked, and your under eye circles look even more exaggerated. I buy a liter of water when I first get to the airport and try to have it gone by the time I leave the airport at my final destination.  Flight lasting more than 6 hours? You should probably drink even more than that!

I hope you find this helpful, and safe travels!

Xo – S

OOTD: The Jet Setting Maxi Dress

26 Tuesday Apr 2016

airport, fashion, fashion trends, style, teavel, what to wear

Normally, there is for though to these posts. Some outfit S wears and want to share with world. Today, I had that outfit ready, and then decided to be more spontaneous with that post. After all, the clothes in my closet will still be there next week. Today, I’m writing this post while on a plane, flying across the country to San Fransisco for a work conference. While traveling in general alludes to luxury and style, sitting cramped in an airplane seat does not. So exactly how can you dress to make the journey manageable, while still feeling like you could be featured on one of those airport style blog post that crop up everywhere. DSC_0007_Fotor

If you have ever read a travel post on StylishTwo before, you know that we do not think that travel is any reason to leave the house disheveled, and till in last nights legging or yoga pants. Yes, they are comfortable. Yes, they are easy. Yes, I wear them often. They are not stylish though. They are made for exercise, a night in on the couch with a glass of wine and your favorite movie, or a lazy morning with a lingering cup of coffee. If you aren’t on the way to yoga class though, leave the yoga pants at home.

So what my answer after banishing what is considered the go to comfort clothing by many women? A jersey maxi dress.

This stretchy comfortable fabric will mold to your body, making you look (and feel) anything but frumpy without having to sacrifice your comfort. After all, you even get to forgo the waistband. It long length keeps your leg covered, and give you somewhere to tuck your leg up into if you manage a little space for a mid flight nap.

This grey maxi has been a long favorite of mine. I like it ankle length cut, and it minimal fabric, so I don’t feel like I have to control it while I am running across the airport to make a connecting flight. It’s short sleeves make it more appropriate for flying, where it normally chilly, and the neutral color make it easy to wear.

Throw a cardigan over it to give you a an extra layer, and opt for flat to make airport navigation easier. Ruffle are big this spring , so I chose this ruffled cardigan, and paired it with a pair of pointed toe lace up flats, another big trend!

Easy, comfortable, and you still look good!

5 More Drugstore Products to Love

21 Thursday Apr 2016

CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Extentions Mascara

I wear this mascara almost every day, it looks natural but better, and it’s nearly foolproof. I can’t even mess it up with my pre-work 5am, haven’t-had-my-coffee-yet makeup routine. They mean it when they call it clump crusher.
Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eye Liner

I love how cat eye liner looks, but I am seriously eyeliner challenged. The game changer for me? This felt tipped liquid pen.  It’s not perfect, but it has been the only one I can ever manage the look! It’s smooth application, and easy to control.
Simple Cleansing Micellar Water

I use this when I need a quick makeup cleanup, and to remove my eye makeup regularly. My eyes especially become very irritated at almost everything, but this never seems to bother them. It doesn’t always work perfectly on waterproof mascara, but I’ll forgive it for well how easily it removes my shadow and liner.  I love to use it on these cleansing cloths, because they are cotton, and don’t leave lint all over my eyelashes.

Vidal Sassoon 1-Minute Mask

My hair is long, thick, and it seems always frizzy and dry. I combat this with a weekly hair mask. This mask has been my favorite lately. My hair always feels smooth and soft after, and it’s inexpensive enough that I don’t feel bad about using it frequently!

Aquaphor Lip Repair

I have extremely dry lips. It seems they are always cracking and peeling, probably a combo of my love of matte lipstick and constant dehydration. Input this stuff on every night to try and balance it out.

8 Shoes Every Woman Should Own

14 Thursday Apr 2016

capsule, closet, fashion blogger, fashion fashion blog, fashion trends, heels, must have, must have shoes, must own, shoes, style, trends

As anyone who reads the blog regularly has noticed, we have been doing a series on what you should have in your closet.  This week, finally, my true love…shoes!
If my closet is anything but minimalistic, my shoe collection is where I really hit one of the ballpark.  I have no willpower when it comes to a new pair of stilettos.  That said, I do know what shoes are important to have in any woman’s wardrobe, and which ones are for my own happiness.  Here is my list of shoes every girl should have handy to make any outfit work.

The Classic Black Pump
This is what I consider the biggest splurge piece.  Spend your money well, and these shoes can last you a lifetime.  They go with almost everything.  The make jeans look chic and can round out any cocktail dress.  Go for a classic style, and a reasonable heel height, because these are your go to pump.
The Nude Pump
Cute makes your leg look longer, and these shoes will pick up where your black pumps seem a little to aggressive.  They work with a sundress, or at a wedding, or with that great skirt when you want to make your legs look like they go on forever.  Personally I vote for an open to, and a closed, but really know yourself and your wardrobe and get a pair that matches your style.
The Statement Heel
Just like I think ever wardrobe needs a going out dress, and a trendy top, every wardrobe needs the shoes that grab everyone’s attention.  For me, they are hot pink cage sandals.  I have owned them forever, and they are still my favorites.  Wear with a little black dress when you don’t feel like being anything but boring, when you go out with the girls, have a hot date, or just need a pick me up.  These are the shoes that make you smile.
The Everyday Sandal
These flay sandals you find yourself slipping on the moment the weather turns warm enough, and never want to take off.  Perfect for the beach, a day full of errands, or a lazy brunch.
The Go to Flat
Ballet flats if they are your thing, pointed toe flats if that’s what you prefer.  These are the perfect shoe when you just don’t have it in you to wear heels.  Dressy enough for look professional, or pair with a cocktail dress, but fabulous enough to pair with your daily outfits and make everyone a little jealous of how effortlessly easy your style looks.
The Sneaker
So, maybe its functional because you actually go to that gym place people keep referring to, or maybe its just because sneakers can be a great way to add that casual but still cool look to any wardrobe.  Sportswear continues to have its hay-day in fashion, and with good reason.  While stiletto’s are a work of art, these days we are often just too busy for them to be functional in our lives.  Choose a great sneaker that really speaks to your personal style, and goes with the overall color scheme of your wardrobe.
The Ankle Boot
Every girl needs an ankle boot.  The ways to style them are endless, and they can help you transition between the seasons.  They are also a huge trend this season, as they look great with cropped pants!

The Riding Boot
This is the classic knee high boot.  With its half-inch heel and structured look, it will be your go to boot when the weather turns colder.  These boots can help you transition your dresses further into fall, and look great over a pair of tights or skinny jeans.  Plus, the low heel means you can easily walk in them all day.
Bonus Shoe: The Wedge!
I love a good wedge.  While I wouldn’t consider it “essential” it would be the first non-essential shoe I would buy.  Why?  Because they are slightly easier to walk in than a heel, and perfect for anything outside.  Think about all those summer weddings, or street side strolls while window shopping with friends.

The 5 Dresses Ever Woman Needs

07 Thursday Apr 2016

Tags

capsule closet, dresses you should own, fashion, fashion blog, fashion blogger, lbd, little black dress, little white dress, LWD, party dress, style, sun dress

While I am all for a trip to your favorite store for a shopaholic adventure (as long as it is in your budget), there are a few dresses that should be in every woman’s closet.

What to wear to a summer wedding

Little Black Dress
If you only have one dress, this is the dress.  Dress it up, dress it down, it somehow always fits the occasion.

Sundress
Throw it over a bikini in the summer, or with cowboy boots for a music festival.

Party Dress
That dress you can wear to a wedding, or an office party.

Little White Dress
This little dress is an unsung hero of the dress department.  Not quite as intimidating as the LBD, and a much better choice when you have a fresh from vacation tan to show off.  Wondering how to wear this dress?  Check out this post!

Girls Night Out Dress
That dress that is a little bit more than your work party dress.  Wild colors, or fun patterns.  This fun, flirty dress is all about you enjoying yourself!
